IR & CCP Sophomore Apoorva Dhingra (CCP Caucus) was born and raised in India. Coming to the United States and Michigan State University for college, Apoorva made new and great friends. In this Senator Spotlight, Apoorva tells us about how she had the #BestJMCSummer when a friend from MSU came to visit her at home.
Apoorva: An American friend of mine who had never stepped out of USA in her entire life came to visit, so my family and I showed her around India. Traveling to various destinations like the Taj Mahal, the forts in Rajasthan, the Himalayas, and various religious places not only exposed her to different cultures, but also gave her a taste of what India has to offer. For someone who had never left the country, I’m sure India as a cultural powerhouse came on a little too strong for her, but it was wonderful to see how she undertook this three week long journey!
In our first Senator Spotlight, we focus on Leon Hister, a Social Relations and Policy and Theater sophomore serving in our SRP Caucus and our University, Community and Alumni Relations Committee Chairman. Our JMCSS summer hashtag has been #BestJMCSummer, so check out below what made Leon’s summer the #BestJMCSummer!
Leon: Woah, the most exciting thing I did this summer was to have studied in Amsterdam (hommage to “Pretty Hurts”, thanks Bey). The topic was gender identity and sexual politcs, so a better place could not have been chosen to host the program. It was quite the experience becoming an Amsterdamer: eating on the canals, enjoying quality coffee at the cafes, and adopting their relaxed demeaner. The travels didn’t stop there either! We went to the Dutch countryside to Brussels to see the European Union. And, of course, some crazy shenanigans there in the Dam!
